We carry out research on a wide range of important environmental issues facing society. Including energy production and use, sustainable resource management (including waste and water), transport,  systems and sustainable development.

Our research is firmly embedded in an understanding of technologies and processes and how people use and interact with technology. The focus is on the role that technology can play in creating a more sustainable future

  • Information SystemsThe Open Systems Research Group applies and develops systems thinking and practice to the study of complex, interconnected situations. Our research focuses on the themes of Sustainability and Environment, Social Learning, Applied Technologies, and Information Systems.
  • Sustainable Waste ManagementThe Integrated Waste Systems (IWS) group carries out research which contributes to policy and practice in sustainable waste and resource management
