Members of the Acoustics Research Group have expertise in environmental noise, acoustical measurement techniques and musical acoustics.
The Acoustics Research Group has one fully anechoic chamber and one semi-anechoic chamber. These can be used for testing the level and directionality of noise emitted by sources such as loudspeakers, electrical goods etc. The Group also has just installed a new outdoor facility for testing the effectiveness of noise barriers.
In addition, the Group has two scanning laser Doppler vibrometers and bespoke instrumentation for characterising the acoustic properties of surfaces, for measuring the resonance properties and internal geometries of ducts (e.g. musical wind instruments and pipe sections), and for outdoor sound measurements.
